Cover

A beautiful registered cover franked with a complete set of American Heritage stamps issued on 25th September 2007. Really love the set of stamps for one of the stamp depicts the turkey. Turkey originates from North America, where it is also a main cuisine of North and Latin America. In 16th to 19th centuries, turkey was imported to Portugal and other European countries. As you can see from the stamps, food like sweet potato, maize, cocoa and passion fruit was also introduce to the European nations. The turkey depicted by the stamp was drawn by the famous Pierre Gourdelle in 1555.

FDC

A very very beautiful Christian FDC depicting Pope John Paul II. Truly a great material for my collection.

Pope John Paul II
or John Paul the Great, born Karol Józef Wojtyła served as Pope of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of Vatican City from 16 October 1978 until his death almost 27 years later. His was the second longest pontificate; only Pope Pius IX served longer. He was the only Polish Pope, and was the first non- Italian Pope since Dutch Pope Adrian VI in the 1520s.

John Paul II has been widely acclaimed as one of the most influential leaders of the twentieth century. It is widely agreed that he was instrumental in ending communism in his native Poland and eventually all of Central Europe, Southern Europe and Eastern Europe as well as significantly improving the Catholic Church's relations with Judaism, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Anglican Communion.

He was one of the most-travelled world leaders in history, visiting 129 countries during his pontificate. He was fluent in many languages. As part of his special emphasis on the universal call to holiness, he beatified 1,340 people and canonised 483 Saints, more than the combined tally of his predecessors during the last five centuries.

Postcards

Besides this, my dear friend has also included a galore of postcards depicting Churches around the world. Though I'm not a big fan of postcards, but all these beautiful postcards are definitely gems to be kept and collected. Again, thanks my dear friend for all your effort and help.

Christian Postmark

A very beautiful Christian Postmark from Germany issued on 13th April 2008. The postmark depicts Christ Our Lord being crucified on the cross to save us from SIN. Whenever I see this, It makes me sad. Our Lord died for our sins, yet we tend to walk a path far from him. Why is this happening? Is the temptation of the world that great that we can easily forget the scarifies our Lord God has made?

FDC

What a lovely FDC on Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris (Cathédrale Notre-Dame) issued on 26th September 1981. I love the FDC alot for it truly compliments my Church theme. Hope to get more materials on Churches around the world.

Information:

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris (Cathédrale Notre-Dame), located in the Fourth Distric, is one of the cathedrals oldest French Gothic style, was begun in 1163 and was completed in 1245. Dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus (hence the name Notre Dame, Notre Dame), sits in the tiny IIle de la Cite in Paris, France, which is surrounded by the river Seine.

The cathedral appears intimately tied to the idea of Gothic splendor, a clear effect on the needs and aspirations of society at the time, a new approach to the cathedral as a building contact and spiritual ascent. The architecture Gothic is a powerful tool within a society that sees, in the beginning of the 11 centurey, transformed urban life at an accelerated pace. The city re-emerges with utmost importance in the political field, in the economic field (mirror of the growing trade relationship), rising also, for its part, the bourgeoisie and the influence of wealthy clergy center. The result is a substitution also needs religious building outside the cities, rural communities monarchical for the new symbol of urban prosperity, the Gothic cathedral. And in answer to the search for a new dignity growing within France, there is the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Stresses particularly the magnificent Cavaille-Coll organ, being the place of organist of Notre-Dame one of the highest honors that can aspire to an organist. This place was occupied by the great French organist and composer Louis Vierne between 1900 and 1937, when it is remembered as the greatest splendor of the Cathedral as a center of artistic and musical.

This is my first cover from Romania, thanks to my friend, Calin Zborovsky. This is certainly a very beautiful cover of The Lord's Supper or more commonly known as The Last Supper that compliments my Christianity theme.

The Bread and Wine of The Lord's Supper are clearly the two more ingenious symbols the world has ever known. These two symbols literally summarizes the entire Christian life. Below are a few Bible verses talking on the importance of the Bread and Wine to us Christians.

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. {1 Cor 11:23-26 RSV}

This verse clearly states the importance for us Christians to take the bread and wine in remembrance of our Lord Jesus who suffer and died to save us from sin. The Holy Communion have to be taken until the Second Coming of our Lord as the King of Kings.

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cop. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. {1 Cor 11:27-28 RSV}

This verse clearly states that the holy communion have to be taken in a worthy manner and not for the fun of it. By know, I guess my readers would understand the importance of The Lord's Supper to us.

Indeed a Work of Art

Personalized Bird Cover

This is indeed a work of art. Thanks Karan for this very beautiful cover franked with my favourite India stamp, Asiatic Paradise Flycatcher. This has truly inspired me to create my own covers with bird stamps on it. Will showcase them very very soon. LOL...

Above is one of my personal favorites. Asiatic Paradise Flycatcher with its young. Simply an amazing picture.

Source: http://www.aksuinn.com/eng/gallery/birds/asiatic-paradise--flycatcher-terpsihpone-paradisi

Information:

The Asiatic Paradise-flycatcher also known as the Common Paradise-flycatcher, is a medium-sized passerine bird.

The typical adult male Asiatic Paradise-flycatcher is about 20 cm long, but the long tail streamers double this. It has a glossy black crown and crest, blue eye-ring and a long narrow rounded tail. The body and wings are white with very long central pair of tail feathers which form streamers that droop.

The Asiatic Paradise-flycatcher is a noisy bird with a sharp skreek call. It has short legs and sits very upright whilst perched prominently, like a shrike. It is insectivorous, hunting by flycatching in the understory. They bathe in small pools of water in the afternoon by diving from perches.

Snow Basilica FDC 2007

Thanks for this very beautiful FDC that compliments my church themes. Simply love it alot.

Information:

Name:
Snows Basilica

Issue date: 2007 December 25th

The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health is located at the small town of Velankanni in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. The Roman Catholic Basilica is devoted to Our Lady of Good Health. Devotion to Our Lady of Good Health of Velankanni can be traced to the mid-16th century and is attributed to three miracles: the apparition of Mary and the Christ Child to a slumbering shepherd boy, the curing of a lame buttermilk vendor, and the rescue of Portuguese sailors from a violent sea storm.

Although all three apparitions ultimately resulted in the erection of a shrine to our Lady, it was the promise of the Portuguese sailors that was the proximate cause of a permanent edifice being built at Velankanni. The chapel was dedicated on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8), the day of their safe landing. More than 500 years later, the nine-day festival and celebration is still observed and draws nearly 2 million pilgrims each year. The Shrine of Our Lady of Vailankanni, also known as the "Lourdes of the East," is one of the most frequented religious sites in India.

OMG, again showing my greedy side...

Augsburg Cathedral (Dom St. Maria) in Augsburg has the distinction of containing the oldest stained-glass windows in the world. It is also a fine old Romanesque church in its own right, with some fine carvings and altarpieces. The cathedral was begun in 944 AD and given a partial Gothic update in the 14th century. The interior was restored in 1934.

The cathedral's Romanesque stained-glass windows date from the 12th century. Located in the south transept, they depict Old Testament prophets Jonas, Daniel, Hosea and Moses in a severe but colorful style. The 11th-century bronze doors, leading into the three-aisle nave, are adorned with bas-reliefs of a mixture of biblical and mythological characters.
The cathedral's interior contains side altars with altarpieces by Hans Holbein the Elder and Christoph Amberger. The ruins of the original basilica can be seen in the crypt beneath the west chancel. In front of the cathedral are the foundations of St. John's Church (10th century) and remains of the Roman wall.
